When to Plant Cabbage Seeds
Start cabbage seeds indoors about 6-8 weeks before the last spring frost. Once seedlings are ready, harden them off and transplant them outdoors 2-3 weeks before the last expected frost for optimal growth.
Where to Plant Cabbage Seeds
Select a spot in your garden that receives at least 6 hours of sunlight daily. Ensure the soil is well-draining and has a pH level between 6.5 and 6.8 for optimal cabbage growth.
How to Plant Cabbage Seeds
Sow cabbage seeds 1/2” deep in the soil, spacing them about 12” apart to allow room for growth. If you’re transplanting seedlings, plant them 24 inches apart for larger heads, or space them closer together for smaller heads.
How to Harvest Cabbage
Harvest your cabbage when the head feels firm throughout when squeezed. Since cabbage is a heavy feeder, it depletes more nutrients from the soil than other plants. To help it thrive, avoid planting cabbage near tomatoes, strawberries, or broccoli.
